Watch: Matthew Everitt fires Ireland under-17s in front against Greece in European Championships opener

The Republic of Ireland lead Greece in their opening UEFA Under-17 European Championship group game in Tallaght thanks a goal from Brighton & Hove Albion’s Matthew Everitt.

Everitt scored at the second attempt 11 minutes into the second half after the Greeks failed to clear a corner from Shamrock Rovers defender James Furlong.

Furlong’s cross was headed back across by Norwich City defender Andrew Odobamidele and, though he saw his first effort saved by Kostas Tzolakis, the striker stabbed home the rebound.

Earlier in the day in Ireland’s group, Belgium scored deep into injury time to snatch a draw against the Czech Republic.
