Watch: Katie McCabe fires Arsenal into the Champions League for the first time in seven years

Katie McCabe fired a late winner for Arsenal against Birmingham City to secure the Gunners Champions League football for the first time since 2012.

The Ireland captain cut in from the right and shot low beyond goalkeeper Hannah Hampton to keep Arsenal at the summit of the Women’s Super League.

McCabe, who signed a new long-term contract with the Gunners earlier this week, has now scored nine goals in 26 games in all competitions this season.

International teammate Louise Quinn also played 90 minutes for Joe Montemurro's title-chasing side.

Defending champions Chelsea needed a win over West Ham United and for Birmingham to get a result to have any chance of catching Arsenal, but neither outcome came to pass.

Leanne Kiernan started for the Hammers as they held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw in the London derby, as Gilly Flaherty cancelled out Beth English’s first-half opener.

The title race looks set to go right down to the wire, however, as Jen Beattie netted a late winner for 2016 title-winners Manchester City as they saw off Liverpool 2-1.

The day’s results leave Arsenal on 45 points, one point clear of Manchester City with three games to play, one of which is a game in hand against Everton next Sunday.
