Glentoran have announced Diarmuid O'Carroll as the new head coach of the club's Womens team for the 2019 season.

The 31-year-old from Killarney played youth football with Home Farm and Celtic as well as senior football for a number of clubs in England and Scotland between 2006 and 2010.

Following a short spell at Icelandic club Valur, O’Carroll signed for Glenavon for a year before concluding his playing career on a hugely positive note winning four consecutive NIFL Premiership titles with Cliftonville and Crusaders.

At international level O’Carroll was capped for the Republic of Ireland at every youth level up to under-21 and has completed his UEFA A coaching license in recent years.

Billy Clarke will remain as General Manager of Glentoran Women F.C. and expressed his delight at their most recent appointment especially with the amount of experience O’Carroll will bring.

"Diarmuid will be a fabulous asset to us,” Clarke told the club website.

“He has a lot of top level experience as a player but also we will benefit from his experience of coaching Crusaders Strollers before going to the USA two years ago.

“To be honest, Diarmuid was the first name we thought of when we started looking for a new Head Coach and when I met him it was clearly obvious that he could bring a lot of extra value to us. Diarmuid has had a couple of preseason weeks with us and the girls have all loved his sessions. The mood in the camp is great ahead of the new season.”
