Kavanagh joins Harps on loan from Cork City

Finn Harps have confirmed that signing of Cork City’s John Kavanagh on loan until mid-way through the upcoming 2019 League of Ireland season.

The 24-year-old moves to Donegal for his second loan spell with the club having linked up with Ollie Horgan’s squad last July as the side won promotion to the Premier Division in the playoffs.

Kavanagh even scored in the second leg of their playoff against Drogheda United to help secure a 3-1 aggregate win over The Boynesiders before the Ballybofey side went on to defeat Limerick FC to secure promotion from the second tier.

Kavanagh began his career with Cork City’s Under-19 side in 2011 and has gone on to have loan spells with Cobh Ramblers in 2017 and then Waterford during the first half of 2018.

“John is a good addition and we’re pleased to get him on loan again from Cork City,” manager Ollie Horgan told the club’s website.

“He has the benefit of knowing our set-up having played the second of last season with us. John did a good job for us and hopefully he can step up to the bigger challenge of playing in the Premier Division.

“He has a decent level of experience having been with Cork since he was a youngster and that experience of being involved with a Premier Division side should be beneficial to us.”

Harps begin their Premier Division campaign away to Bohemians at Dalymount Park (kick-off 7.45pm).
