Liam Nash heads to Leeside as Caulfield bolsters City squad

Cork City have announced the signing of Gillingham striker Liam Nash ahead of the 2019 League of Ireland season.

The 23-year-old made a dozen appearances for Gillingham in League One during the 2017/2018 season but the striker failed to score during any of his appearances in England’s third tier.

Two loan spells came about earlier in the 2018/2019 season when Nash appeared in the National League South for Dulwich Hamlet and then Concord Rangers, where he scored five goals.

The Southend born Nash had his most impressive season of his career so far when he scored 33 goals in 41 appearances for Maldon and Tiptree in Isthmian League Division One North the season before turning pro at Gillingham.

“It’s brilliant to get finally get it over the line and I am very excited for this new chapter,” Nash said speaking to Cork City’s website.

“It is a new challenge and I can’t wait to get going. The lads are great, the staff are great and we are looked after very well here. The training is good, the tempo, the intensity… and I am really looking forward to getting my head down and getting some games.

“I feel fit and ready to go, and hopefully, when I get the opportunity, I will take it with both hands. I want to get myself back out there, my confidence, scoring goals and working hard. I just want to give everything on match day and hopefully progress and get some goals!”

The Rebels begin their Premier Division campaign with a trip to Richmond Park on Friday evening where they will take on St Patrick’s Athletic (kick-off 7.45pm).
