Champions Wexford boosted as player of the year Rianna Jarrett and keeper Ciamh Gray sign back

Wexford Youths have been handed a big boost ahead of the 2019 season with the news reigning Women’s National League player of the year Rianna Jarrett has signed back for 2019.

Goalkeeper Ciamh Gray (formerly Dollard) has also re-signed, while Katrina Parrock, Orlaith Conlon, Aisling Frawley and Becky Cassin had previously pledged their commitment for 2019.

Jarrett scored 27 times for Youths in 2018 as they swept all that came before them in the league, FAI Cup and League Shield, only being pipped to the golden boot by Peamount United’s Amber Barrett.

The 24-year-old may have taken the top scorer gong had she not missed the final league game of the season against UCD Waves with a foot injury that looked set to keep her out of the cup final.

She made a remarkable recovery to line out against Barrett in the FAI Cup final against Peamount United a week later, however, as Parrock fired Wexford to an historic treble.

2018 also saw Jarrett make her return to the international fold, featuring in the final two World Cup qualifying games after three successive cruciate ligament injuries had hampered her progress.

Portlaoise native Gray signs back for another season following her breakthrough year in the black and pink of Wexford.

The 26-year-old, who won a GAA All-Star for her performances with Laois in 2014, battled for the number one jersey with Sophie Lenehan and started the Champions League tie with Ajax in August.
