Dutch-Irishman Barry Maguire joins Singapore Premier League side Geylang International after leaving Limerick

Dutch-Irishman Barry Maguire has joined Singapore Premier League side Geylang International after parting company with Limerick.

The former Netherlands and Ireland underage international, who was courted by Giovanni Trapattoni during his time in charge of the Boys in Green, spent 2018 in the blue of Limerick.

Maguire scored three times as Tommy Barrett’s side were relegated after a 3-0 aggregate defeat to Finn Harps in the promotion/relegation play-off.

The 29-year-old was previously on the books with Dutch sides Utrecht, Den Bosch, VVV-Venlo and SV TEC before joining the Blues at the beginning of last season.

He played for Ireland at under-16 level in 2005 before going on to represent his country of birth up to under-20 level.

Geylang are currently in Malaysia in a pre-season camp ahead of the resumption of the Singaporean league season.

“Geylang look like an exciting team who want to play good football and the coach is tactically strong,” Maguire told Fox Sports Asia.

“I’m looking forward to a great first season with the club in Singapore.”
