St Patrick's Athletic sign former Scotland under-21 midfielder Rhys McCabe from Sligo

Rhys McCabe believes playing for St Patrick’s Athletic will suit his style after signing from Sligo Rovers on a one-year deal.

The Scottish midfielder was unveiled at Richmond Park on Wednesday alongside Chris Forrester, who signed a three-year deal with the Saints after three-and-a-half years in the UK.

26-year-old McCabe joined the Bit o’ Red midway through the 2017 season from Dunfermline Athletic and impressed enough to earn an additional year at the Showgrounds.

The Polbeth native, who began his career with Rangers before spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Dunfermline, is a former Scotland under-21 international.

"There have been conversations over the last few weeks so finally I'm glad to get it done and sign for Pat's and get down to training and stuff now,” McCabe told the club’s website.

“From talking to Harry Kenny, his style of football suits the way I like to play football and from speaking to him, his management skills have been first class so far.

“I'm fortunate that I know a few of the lads from playing against them and I'm looking forward to the season ahead.

"If you look at the additions we have made, there are some great additions and some quality already here.

“We are looking for a positive season but, personally, I like to take it game by game, a quarter of a season at a time, and then see how I and the team get on.

“But obviously, we'll need to improve on last year."
