Teenager William Hondermarck joins Norwich City after breakthrough season at Drogheda United

English Championship side Norwich City have announced the capture of Drogheda United midfielder William Hondermarck after a successful trial period with the Canaries.

The talented 18-year-old midfield star joins the Championship promotion hopefuls after bursting onto the scene with Drogheda last term, helping the Boynesiders to the semi-finals of the play-offs.

The French-born bustling midfielder made 14 First Division appearances for Tim Clancy’s side with his solitary strike for the United Park outfit coming in a 7-2 defeat away to Shelbourne in the EA Sports Cup.

Hondermarck came through the ranks with St Kevin’s Boys and spent time with Bohemians before moving to Shelbourne for the 2017 season, and then on to Drogheda the following year.

“It feels like a dream.” Hondermarck told the Canaries’ media team following confirmation of the deal.

“To have the chance to be involved in an environment like this is amazing for me.

“I’ve had a really successful trial period here. It’s been hard work with the quality and double sessions, but I’ve enjoyed every minute so far.”

Hondermarck added that he is keen to finish his studies while making the adjustment to life at the Carrow Road outfit:

“Education is a big thing for me so I’m going to still be studying for my [Leaving Cert].

“I really want to settle into life here at Norwich and get a feel for the people here. But I want to focus on getting a good education as well.”

Hondermarck’s first official involvement could come as soon as this evening, with the East Anglia club pitting their academy side against Preston North End in the FA Youth Cup (kick-off 7pm).
