Paul O'Conor answers the call to join Longford from Bray

First Division promotion hopefuls Longford Town have announced the signing of experienced central midfielder Paul O’Conor on a one-year deal from fellow promotion contenders Bray Wanderers.

31-year-old O’Conor joins the Midlanders bringing his vast League of Ireland experience from time spent at clubs such as UCD, Drogheda United, Limerick, Sligo Rovers, St Patrick’s Athletic and Bray Wanderers.

O’Conor has won the First Division before with Limerick in 2016 while also playing a pivotal role in Drogheda United’s FAI Cup final run of 2013, when the Boynesiders were eventually edged out in a 3-2 Lansdowne Road classic.

Since departing Limerick midway through the 2017 campaign, O’Conor has played for St Patrick’s Athletic and Bray Wanderers where the 31-year-old Dubliner has been involved in two relegation dogfights, one of which ended in ultimate disappointment at Bray Wanderers.

The arrival of the former UCD midfielder will be a major boost to Neale Fenn and his backroom team as he looks to build a squad capable of going one better than last year at the City Calling Stadium when they made the Playoffs.

O’Conor adds to an already strong midfield at the Strokestown Road venue where he will be looking to nail down a position in the starting XI with the likes of Jamie Hollywood, Aodh Dervin and Dean Zambra all vying for a spot in Neale Fenn’s side as well.

O’Conor could be in line to make his first competitive start for De Town against his former club Limerick FC on the opening night of the SSE Airtricity League First Division campaign at the Markets Field on February 22nd.
