New Dungannon Swifts captain Chris Hegarty and vice-captain Seanan Clucas sign new deals

New Dungannon Swifts captain Chris Hegarty and vice-captain Seanan Clucas have each signed one-year extensions that will keep them at the club until 2022 and 2020 respectively.

The pair’s promotions follow the news that former captain Ryan Harpur has opted to leave the club to join league leaders Ballymena United.

Harpur had agreed a deal to make the move at the end of the season but the clubs reached an agreement on Thursday to make the move effective as of January 1st.

26-year-old Hegarty joined his hometown club midway through the 2015-16 season from Linfield, having spent four years in Scotland with Rangers.

Clucas, also 26, joined the Swifts in 2016 following a short spell with Derry City. The former Preston North End trainee had previously been with Bristol Rovers and Linfield.

“Chris and Seanan are excellent players with the ability, attitude and desire needed in order to push the club forward,” Swifts manager Kris Lindsay told the club’s website.

“They are both local lads and are the type of player that we need to build the club around and that have the club at heart.

“I’m also pleased to announce that Chris will be the new club captain and seanan vice captain moving forward.

“They are both great characters in the group and ones that set high standards for themselves and others and as I say I’m delighted to have them on board.”

Hegarty said: “I’m delighted to sign an extension to my current contract.

“Obviously I’m even more delighted to be announced as Club Captain of Dungannon Swifts FC. I’ve big boots to fill after Ryan’s departure but I’ll do the best job I can on and off the pitch.”

Clucas added: “I’m very happy at the club and since Kris Lindsay has come in, I’ve been able to put performances in where I know I play my best football, in the middle of the park.

“I just want to focus on my football now that this is done and dusted, and focus on getting D26ungannon Swifts up the table!”
