Longford Town sign promising winger Carlton Ubaezuonu from Dundalk

Longford Town have completed the signing of winger Carlton Ubaezuonu from Dundalk ahead of the 2019 First Division season.

The winger spent the past season on loan in the second tier with Galway United but has opted to make a clean break with the Lilywhites to kickstart his career with Neale Fenn’s side.

20-year-old Ubaezuonu, who came through the ranks with Lough Harps in his native Roscommon, was part of the Dundalk under-19 side who won the Enda McGuill Cup in 2017.

The South African-born attacker initially joined the Tribesman on a half-season loan but impressed enough to extend the deal until the end of the season.

Ubaezuonu made 27 appearances in all for Galway, including 13 starts, and scored four goals as the pre-season favourites finished a disappointed sixth in the table.

Longford narrowly missed out on a play-off following a defeat to Drogheda United in the penultimate series of games but will look to mount another charge in 2019.

The midlands club added goalkeeper Lee Steacy from Shelbourne and former Wolvers defender Anto Breslin earlier this month, and today announced the signing of defender Kevin Knight from Cabinteely.
