Cretaro joins Premier Division new boys Finn Harps

Newly promoted Premier Division side Finn Harps have landed a major transfer coup in the name of Raffaele Cretaro for the 2019 season.

The Sligo Rovers legendary figure joins the Co. Donegal side just as the ever-present goalkeeper Ciaran Gallagher has re-signed for the Harps.

Cretaro’s signature will be a major boost to any aspirations the Finn park side have of staying in the Premier Division next year as Ollie Horgan looks to formulate the right blend of experience and youth ahead of the coming year in Ballybofey.

Cretaro leaves his boyhood club after 17 years as a member of the Bit O’Red’s playing squad. While at the Showgrounds, ‘Raff’ won two FAI Cup’s, alongside one league title.

Previously of Bohemians as well, Cretaro is a seasoned campaigner and his signing is of much pleasure to Ollie Horgan who is hoping to keep Harps up in the top-tier next year.

“We’re happy to get Raff in as he is a forward with vast experience of the Premier Division.” Horgan said.

“Competition for places in every part of the field is vital and Raff will give us that up front.

“He’s looking forward to a new challenge at Finn Park and please God his enthusiasm for the game and his knowledge of what it takes to put it up to the top teams will rub off on our younger players who have to learn quickly at this level.”

Ciaran Gallagher has also re-signed for the club after a supremely impressive 2018 First Division campaign which saw Harps win promotion to the Premier Division.

Gallagher who has more than 200 appearances to his name as a player for Finn Harps will be a massive addition to Ollie Horgan’s ranks for the upcoming year where Harps will be looking to make amends for their relegation in 2017.

“Ciaran was in great form last season and we’ll need that and more from him in the Premier Division.

“We’re going to be under far more pressure defensively so having Ciaran signed again is a big plus.”
