Duff hopes something will happen with the Hoops in Glasgow

Former Republic of Ireland international and current Shamrock Rovers under-15 head coach Damien Duff is considering a move to join the Celtic coaching staff.

Speaking on RTÉ on Tuesday evening, Duff confirmed that he has been in talks with the Glasgow club. 

Following Shaun Maloney’s departure, there is a position available with Celtic’s under-20 team and Duff is well known to current Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers as the pair previously worked at Chelsea at the same time.

“I spoke to them last week and I went over to the training ground and met everybody and it was so impressive,” said Duff. 

“For me, and most Irishmen, it is one of the biggest clubs in the world. There is a role going there with the reserves and we are still talking to them.”

Duff has begun his coaching career with Shamrock Rovers. His under-15 side dropped just two points across 14 group games in Group 2 of the under-15 league but were beaten by St. Patrick’s Athletic in the semi-final of the league.

“I’m absolutely obsessed with football, obsessed with learning and improving so that could be an amazing environment to do so. 

“I’d swim over to work there but the minute you have a beautiful young family which I do when there are kids involved it is a hard emotional thing to do so.

“Maybe I’ll have to bribe them with getting a dog or something! I’m afraid of dogs so I might have to rent two houses over there! 

“It is an amazing club and hopefully something will happen.”
