Dundalk winger Michael Duffy named PFAI Player of the Year

Dundalk winger Michael Duffy has been named PFAI Player of the Year by his peers after playing a starring role in the Lilywhites’ double-winning season.

The Derry native scored 13 goals and registered a massive 25 assists as the Louth side completed their second league and cup double in four years.

His Dundalk teammate Jamie McGrath was named Young Player of the Year, while manager Stephen Kenny picked up Manager of Year, as the Lilywhites swept the boards at the awards in Dublin.

23-year-old Duffy, who recently signed a two-year extension to his deal at Oriel Park, signed for Dundalk from Celtic at the beginning of the 2017 season.

He began his career with his hometown club Derry City, making his debut under Kenny’s successor Declan Devine in late 2012.

After three seasons in the senior team at the Brandywell, he signed for Celtic as a 20-year-old but failed to make the breakthrough to the first team.

He spent time on loan with Alloa Athletic and Dundee before moving back across the water to join the Lilywhites.
