Peamount United striker Amber Barrett wins golden boot for second year running

Peamount United striker Amber Barrett scooped the Women's National League golden boot for the second year running as she finished the season with a total of 30 goals.

She was presented with the award at the annual Continental Tyres Women's National League awards in Ballsbridge, Dublin on Friday night.

That astonishing strike rate of more than two goals per game – Barrett missed a chunk of the season with injury – includes seven hat-tricks.

Barrett scored 16 goals as she finished top of the goalscoring charts in 2017 but nearly doubled it this year despite her injury issues.

She got her seventh treble in the first half final-day demolition of outgoing FAI Cup holders Cork City to nudge her three clear of Wexford Youths' Rianna Jarrett.

It's the culmination of a profitable year for the Donegal native as she forced her way back in to the plans of Republic of Ireland manager Colin Bell.

The Ireland strikers will do battle once more when Peamount meet Wexford next Sunday in the 2018 FAI Cup final.
