Seamus Coleman expected to return from injury for Ireland's Nations League double-header next month

Seamus Coleman could return for the Republic of Ireland's UEFA Nations League games with Denmark and Wales next month after a positive injury update from Everton.

The Ireland captain played the full 90 minutes in the 4-1 defeat in Cardiff last week - his first competitive game in 18 months - but picked up a foot injury in training.

There were fears the injury could put him out of what is now a crucial double-header at the Aviva Stadium, but Everton manager Marco Silva expects him to miss no more than two weeks.

"Seamus is out of the match," Silva told reporters at Everton's press conference in advance of the Premier League game with West Ham at the weekend.

"Our medical staff will make a report, but he is [out for] one or two weeks, nothing more."

Silva also provided a positive update on midfielder James McCarthy, who underwent surgery following a double leg break sustained playing for his club in January.

"With James McCarthy, it is good news for all of us. He needs time to come into good fitness as well, but it's good news for us.

"James needs to win some confidence. It was a bad injury, but he's doing well.

"He's in a happy moment, and now it's a moment for us to give time for him to have session after session [to build] some confidence."

Ireland face Denmark at the Aviva Stadium on Satturday, October 13th and Wales at the same venue three days later.
