Shamrock Rovers duo and Luxembourg-born Bayern Munich teenager named in Mohan's under-19 squad

Republic of Ireland Under-19 head coach Tom Mohan has named a strong 22-man sqaud for the upcoming friendly matches against Wales including four players from the League of Ireland.

St. Pat’s goalkeeper Brian Maher, Bohs defender Andy Lyons along with Shamrock Rovers duo Aaron Bolger and Brandon Kavanagh have been named in Mohan’s squad.

In addition there are two midfielders plying their trade in continental Europe.

Bordeaux’s Tom Gaston and Bayern Munich teenager Ryan Johansson are included in the squad. Johansson, who was born in Luxembourg, has played underage football for the Duchy as well as with Sweden where he spent some of his youth. The 17-year-old qualifies for Ireland through his mother from Mullingar.

Ahead of the Under-19 European Championship qualifying round next month, Mohan is keen to take a look at a number of players, notably those that are returning to the squad after the recent Under-17 Championships in England and the Elite round of the U-19 European Championships - with no less than twelve players from these two groups of players named in his latest squad.

"You want to win matches, but if you get good performances there is a good chance you will get the right results." said Mohan following the squad announcement.

The friendlies are due to take place in the City Calling Stadium, Longford on September 9thand the second game two days later at Eamonn Deacy Park, Galway on September 11th.
