Former Limerick and Cork City winger Chiedozie Ogbene joins Exeter City on loan

Exeter City manager Matt Taylor hailed 'exciting' Chiedozie Ogbene after the former Limerick and Cork City winger joined on loan until January.

Nigeria-born, Cork-raised Ogbene has joined the League Two club on a four-month loan from Brentford.

The 21-year-old joined the Bees from Limerick in January and has made two Championship appearances and one in the EFL Cup to date.

He links up once again with Exeter assistant boss Eric Kinder, whom he worked with before when the latter was at Limerick under Neil McDonald.

“I am very excited,” Ogbene told the Exeter City website.

“You have to be excited to get an opportunity like this. I am very pleased that Exeter have great belief in me to come down here and hopefully I can help them go to where they want to go.

“I have researched about the club and, knowing Eric, I have seen that they play good football and I feel like they are a team that are on their way up and I want to be part of that.

“I am a direct player. My strengths would be my pace and my power. I like to run at defenders. I like to get in behind and I like to bring a different dynamic of the game into football.

"That is what I want to do and I am going to use my strengths – my pace and my power – to threaten teams, try and score goals and get the team a win.”

Taylor added: “He brings us a different dynamic in attack really. He is pacey, powerful and direct.

“He is still learning his game, he still developing. As with all loan players, Exeter City pride themselves on player development and Chiedozie’s progress will paramount during his time here.

“We will keep developing, keep working on him as a player and keep improving him and improving his end product in terms of attack.

“He is an exciting player and I am happy to have got him on board.”
