Former Manchester City prospect Jack Byrne signs for Kilmarnock

Former Ireland under-21 midfielder Jack Byrne has joined Kilmarnock on a one-year deal after leaving Oldham Athletic by mutual consent.

The 22-year-old will be in good company in the Rugby Park engine room, where he'll link up with fellow Dubliners Gary Dicker and Alan Power.

Playmaker Byrne has endured an unhappy 18 months at Oldham, where he couldn't prevent the club being relegated to the fourth tier before being frozen out of the first team picture.

Byrne came through the ranks at Manchester City and scored six goals as the Eastlands club reached the last 16 of the UEFA Youth League in 2014-15.

He had a successful loan spell with Cambuur in the Netherlands, scoring four goals in 27 appearances, before a more troubled spell with Blackburn Rovers.

He joined Wigan Athletic in January 2017 but was a fringe player as they were relegated to the third tier before joining Oldham 12 months later.
