Republic of Ireland international Stephen Quinn has signed a short-term deal with English League One side Burton Albion.

The Dubliner has signed a contract, intially until January 22nd, after parting company with Reading in the summer.

32-year-old Quinn endured a frustrating final year with Reading as injuries curtailed his involvement, and he took much of the summer out to recover.

After training with the Brewers over the final few weeks of pre-season, the former St Patrick's Athletic man signed a six-month deal with the recently-relegated side.

“I’m really happy to have signed - it’s all happened really quickly, actually,” Quinn told the club's official website.

“I came down a few weeks ago and trained with the guys, and it’s gone really well. I’ve really enjoyed it.

“I finished at Reading at the end of last season and I just didn’t know where to go with it - I was frustrated at the lack of games I played at Reading due to injury.

“My body just needed the time off to heal. I had the time off over the summer to get the body right, and get that buzz and love for the game back again.

“I’ve come down here and certainly got that. I contacted the club to see if I could get fit and train, and I’ve done well enough in training that the manager sees something in me still, and he’s offered me the deal.

“Training at St George’s Park is always nice and the lads have helped me settle in.”

Quinn – whose brother Alan also played at senior level for Ireland – played schoolboy football with Cherry Orchard before joining St Patrick's Athletic as an 18-year-old.

He made just one appearance for the Saints before moving to Sheffield United in 2005 and he helped the Blades to reach the Premier League.

After seven years at Bramall Lane he made the move across Yorkshire to Hull City, where he was named player of the season in his maiden year as the Tigers were promoted to the Premier League.

He started Hull's first-ever FA Cup final appearance, which they lost 3-2 to Arsenal, in 2014 before joining Reading the following year.

Quinn has appeared 18 times for Ireland, making his debut in June 2013 having been first called up to the senior side in 2007.
