16-year-old Hoops keeper Gavin Bazunu to sign for Manchester City according to reports

Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu will join Manchester City next summer in a deal worth €400,000 to the Tallaght club, according to reports.

Journalist John Fallon writes in the Irish Sun that Hoops officials were in Manchester last Friday – the same day Bazunu sat on the bench as Rovers lost 1-0 to Bohemians – brokering the deal.

The Hoops will receive an up-front fee in the region of €400,000 and the 16-year-old goalkeeper will sign a four-year deal with the English Premier League champions.

Bazunu will remain in Dublin until he finishes his Leaving Cert in June of next year, meaning he will be available to play for Rovers for the first four months of the season.

The Firhouse native made his senior debut in the 5-0 win over Bray Wanderers in June and has yet to concede in three subsequent league appearances.

Bazunu also played the two Europa League qualifying legs against AIK, his performances in which contributed to him being named SWAI Player of the Month for July.
