Watch: Katie McCabe on the double as Arsenal open league cup defence with a win over Leanne Kiernan's West Ham

Republic of Ireland captain Katie McCabe scored twice as Arsenal kicked off their defence of the WSL Cup with a 3-1 win over West Ham United at Meadow Park on Sunday.

Ireland team mate Louise Quinn also started in defence, while Leanne Kiernan started for West Ham following her move from Shelbourne last month.

McCabe opened the scoring after 12 minutes, stroking the ball coolly over goalkeeper Becky Spencer after Jordan Nobbs’ shot was blocked, and Emma Meade nodded home a second before half time.

Kiernan bagged an assist as the Hammers halved the deficit three minutes into the second half, the Cavan-born striker doing well down the right before teeing up Brianna Visalli.

McCabe made sure Arsenal opened Group Two South with three points ten minutes from time with an excellent finish from just outside the box.
