South Korea appoint former Portugal coach Paulo Bento

South Korea have named former Portugal manager Paulo Bento as their new coach following the departure of Shin Tae-yong.

Taeyong led the Asian nation to a third-place finish in their World Cup 2016 group following a 2-0 win over defending champions Germany in their final outing.

He's replaced by Lisbon native Bento, who managed his native Portugal to the European Championships in 2012 and the World Cup in 2014.

The former midfielder, who made 35 appearances for his country between 1992 and 2002, was most recently in charge of Chinese club side Chongqing Dangdai Lifan before his dismissal in July.

"As a result of interviewing all the coaching staff, we were all professional, professional, modern and highly professional," said Korean FA head Kim Pang-gon.
