Extratime reporters Tom O'Connor and Michael P Ryan nominated for prestigious FAI awards

Extratime.ie reports Tom O'Connor and Michael P Ryan have been nominated for honours at the FAI Communication Awards.

Tom, who is a member of the Extratime editorial team, has been nominated for Best Feature for his series 'Education: Life Beyond Soccer.'

The series, which now numbers 24 articles, is an ongoing project that shines a light on the role that education plays in the lives of young Irish sportspeople, male and female.

Interviewees have included PFAI general secretary Stephen McGuinness, Cork City player Steven Beattie and St Patrick's Athletic player and primary school teacher Conan Byrne.

The most recent installment features former Wexford and current George Mason University goalkeeper Corey Chambers. The entire series can be read here.

Michael has been a photographer with Extratime since 2015 and has photographed high-profile games both international and domestic, and has been nominated for Best Photographed.

Also nominated are two former Extratime.ie contributors in Ryan Bailey and Brendan White.

Ryan is up against Tom in Best Feature for his article The lost genius of Irish football: Remembering Liam Whelan, Dublin's Busby Babe.

Brendan has been nominated for Best PRO (Public Relations Officer) for his work at the helm of Waterford's press department.

The winners will be announced on Friday, August 17th at the annual FAI Delegates' Dinner, which brings to a close the association's 'Festival of Football' week in Cork.
