Ireland winger James McClean set for Stoke City switch

James McClean will be a Stoke City player by the end of the week after the Republic of Ireland winger completed a medical with the Championship side on Friday.

The Derryman made 30 appearances during West Bromwich Albion's doomed Premier League campaign last year but just 14 of those were from the start.

A statement on Stoke's website read: “Stoke City can confirm that James McClean has today undergone a medical at Clayton Wood and expect to complete his signing over the weekend.”

29-year-old McClean has made no secret of his desire to join fellow relegated side the Potters, having been blocked from leaving the Hawthorns midway through last season.

McClean missed a training trip with the Baggies and was disciplined by the club for having “failed to report without permission and will now face internal disciplinary proceedings."

The former Derry City, Sunderland and Wigan Athletic winger now appears to have got his wish and will shortly join Gary Rowett's side.
