Ireland under-21 star Reece Grego-Cox joins Crawley Town

Republic of Ireland under-21 international Reece Grego-Cox has signed a two-year deal with English League Two side Crawley Town.

The 21-year-old has spent the summer on trial with the club based just outside of London and impressed in behind-closed-doors friendlies against Fulham and Norwich City.

Grego-Cox had previously worked under Crawley assistant boss Warren Feeney while on loan at Newport County from Queen's Park Rangers, where he came through the youth ranks.

“I came in here two weeks ago, done very well, [and] the management was really pleased with me,” Grego-Cox told the club's website.

“I scored in the Fulham game, which was good with myself. I played against Norwich and done very well there too, so I think I ticked a lot of boxes here and I'm very pleased to sign.”

He added: “QPR was a very good platform for me. I was there for eight years and I played in the first-team there when I was 18.

“Now I'm 21 and I wanted to settle down here and stake myself as a first-team player and play men's football week-in, week-out, build my experience up, and hopefully move up the leagues.”

Crawley manager Harry Kewell said: “Reece has really done well since he joined us for pre-season and we think he’s got a lot to offer.

“He works hard, he can play in different attacking roles and I like his hunger to make the most of this opportunity.”

London-born Grego-Cox began his career as a 12-year-old with Queens Park Rangers and made his debut in the FA Cup in 2015 before appearing in a Premier League game shortly after.

He spent time on loan with Newport County in 2016 before cancelling his contract early in January 2018, spending the remainder of the English season with non-league Woking.
