Mark Quigley appointed manager of Sheriff YC

Former St Patrick’s Athletic and Sligo Rovers playmaker Mark Quigley has been unveiled as the new manager of AUL Premier A side Sheriff YC.

Quigley, who joined the playing staff at Sheriff last year, takes over from the phenomenally successful duo Alan Reilly and Chris Giles, who departed last month.

Reilly and Giles oversaw an astonishing run of seven straight titles and four FAI Junior Cups but came up short last season as Usher Celtic pipped them to the league crown.

32-year-old Quigley played schoolboy football with Sheriff before signing for English club Millwall as a teenager.

After returning to Ireland, Quigley spent time with Shamrock Rovers, Pats, Bohemians, Dundalk, Sligo and Derry before finishing up back at Dalymount Park in 2016.

The striker was voted PFAI Players’ Player of the Year in 2012 as he led Sligo to the Premier Division title, while he won an FAI Cup medal with the Saints in 2014.

A club statement read: “We're excited to announce Mark Quigley as our Premier A first team manager for the 2018/19 season.

“Mark has been involved with Sheriff throughout his career, having begun his schoolboy football at the club and last season playing with our senior team.

“He comes to the role with a serious pedigree having played with Millwall and is a former League of Ireland winner with Sligo and player of the year.

“We're excited to have Mark and his management team onboard and look forward to a new chapter in the clubs history.”
