Morocco become first team eliminated from World Cup 2018

Morocco became the first side to exit World Cup 2018 after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Portugal at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Hervé Renard's side required at least a draw against the reigning European champions to stand any chance of advancing to the knockout stages.

The Atlas Lions' chances were always slim as they faced Spain in their final game, after losing their opening game to Iran to an injury-time own goal from Aziz Bouhaddouz.

And things started disastrously for Morocco as they fell behind in the fourth minute to a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo – his fourth of the tournament – and that proved to be the difference.

Saudi Arabia will join Morocco should they lose to Uruguay this afternoon, while anything less than a Saudi win will see Egypt eliminated.
