Saints striker Christy Fagan to miss rest of the season after knee surgery

St Patrick's Athletic striker Christy Fagan will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a patella tendon injury suffered in training.

The 2014 Premier Division top scorer has endured a frustrating couple of seasons as niggling injuries have kept him sidelined, while he also struggled with illness at the start of this year.

29-year-old Fagan has scored just once in the league this season and has seen Jake Keegan and Thomas Byrne jump him in the queue for the forward spot at Richmond Park.

Fagan has made just six league starts this season, and come off the bench nine times, before suffering the season-ending injury earlier this month.

“Christy Fagan is gone for the season,” Buckley told extratime.ie following Friday's 3-0 defeat to Sligo Rovers, Saints' fifth on the bounce and third in which they've failed to score.

“He done his patella tendon. He'll be out for a few months with it, there's no two ways about it.”
