Midfielder Faysel Kasmi signs for Beerschot Ilrijk from Waterford

Belgian midfielder Faysel Kasmi has left Premier Division Waterford to join Beerschot Wilrijk in his home country.

The 22-year-old signed for Waterford in March of this year and made his debut in a 2-1 victory against Shamrock Rovers.

He found gametime hard to come, however, with the from of compatriot Stanley Aborah and Bastien Héry limiting him to a total of 12 appearances for the Blues.

Kasmi spent the early years of his professional career in Belgium, making his debut in the Premier League for Lierse SK in 2014.

He had loan spells with Standard Liege and AC Omonia of Cyprus, where he made just two appearances during his stay.

He will now head back to Antwerp and to Beerschot Wilrijk who compete in the First Division B.

“I would like to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart,” Kasmi said in a statement to the club's fans.

“Your support has made me feel welcome from start to finish. It has been an honour to play for Waterford.”

Manager Alan Reynolds added: “He’s been great to have around, on and off the pitch, and he’s been brilliant in the dressing room since he’s got here. We wish him all the best.”
