Former Saints midfielder Chris Forrester joins Aberdeen

Former St Patrick's Athletic midfielder Chris Forrester has joined Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen from Peterborough United.

The 25-year-old has fallen out of favour with the Posh over the past 12 months after initially being made club captain ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Ireland under-21 international Forrester was called up to the senior Ireland panel for a pre-Euro 2016 friendly against the Netherlands but wasn't retained for the final squad.

Dubliner Forrester had initially made the move to the UK in the summer on the back of his eye-catching form for the Saints.

“As soon as my agent told me there was interest from Aberdeen, I knew that I needed a fresh start from Peterborough.

“Things didn't go so well last season. I knew the stature of the club – they get over 15,000 at games most weeks – [and] I'm looking forward to the challenge.”

Dons manager Derek Innes said: “Chris is a player who has always caught my eye. He can play in a variety of positions, but he handles the ball extremely well and he will bring us flexibility in the midfield area.

“We’ve been aware of him for a while and hopefully he sees Aberdeen as an opportunity to give impetus to his career. I’m delighted to welcome him to the club.”

The former Belvedere schoolboy made his League of Ireland breakthrough with Bohemians before joining Pats ahead of the 2012 season.

He helped the Saints to the Premier Division title in 2013 and was part of the first Pats team to win the FAI Cup in over 50 years when they prevailed over Derry City in 2014.
