Nicky Low signs for Derry City until the end of the season

Derry City have staved off interest from ambitious Irish League club Larne to secure the signature of midfielder Nicky Low until the end of the season.

There had been speculation the Scottish midfielder would make the move east to Antrim after Dundee announced he would be released on the expiry of his contract this summer.

26-year-old Low – who has been on loan with the Candystripes for the past 17 months – would have been free to move once his loan ended.

Instead, the Greenock native has agreed to make the move to Derry permanent, at least until the end of the current season.

A club statement read: “Nicky Low has moved to dispel recent rumours that he is set to leave the Brandywell this month by signing an extended contract until the end of the season.

“The 26-year old has been a pivotal part of Kenny Shiels' midfield this year and the announcement is sure to be well received by the club's supporters.

“Low was released by his parent club Dundee last month but it is clear that the Candy Stripes are very keen to keep him despite obvious interest from the Irish League.”
