Former Irish under-21 international Owen Garvan leaves St Patrick's Athletic

Former Republic of Ireland under-21 midfielder Owen Garvan has left St Patrick's Athletic by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old joined the Saints last summer after departing Colchester United and helped Liam Buckley's side avoid relegation on the final day.

Garvan made 21 appearances over 11 months with the Inchicore club but has been dogged by a persistent achilles injury this year, making just ten appearances in the league.

He was last part of the Saints squad for a league stalemate with Sligo Rovers, and his last appearance came as a late substitute in a 1-0 home win over Waterford.

Dubliner Garvan, who is the nephew of Irish international Con Martin, was part of a great Home Farm schoolboy side containing Shane Supple and Darren O'Dea that went unbeaten for three years.

He signed for Ipswich Town as a 16-year-old and made his senior debut with a year and made over 150 appearances for the Championship club.

Garvan joined Crystal Palace in 2010, and helped the Eagles to the Premier Division in 2013, and spent time on loan at Bolton Wanderers and Millwall before departing in 2015 to join Colchester.
