Ireland and United States to wear special shirts in support of LGBT Pride

The Republic of Ireland will show support for LGBT Pride during tonight's international friendly with the United States with a special kit featuring rainbow-patterned numbering.

Both teams will show their commitment to equal rights in the same fashion after US Soccer indicated their men's and women's teams would do similar in their games during Pride month.

A tweet on the FAI's official account read: "The back of tomorrow’s match kit. Not just a number, this is a statement. Ireland, supporting #LGBT rights.”

Martin O'Neill's side take on Dave Sarachan's side at the Aviva Stadium tonight in what will be John O'Shea's 118th and final appearance for his country after a 17-year career.

After Ireland, The United States' men's side face France in Lyon on Saturday, June 9th, while the women's side take on China on Tuesday, June 12th.
