Christian Pulisic omitted as United States name squad for Ireland and France tests

The United States have named a 25-man squad for the upcoming friendly internationals against the Republic of Ireland and France next month.

Christian Pulisic of Borussia Dortmund is the most notable omission from Dave Sarachan's young and experimental selection.

Former Ireland under-18 international Lynden Gooch, of Stoke City, also misses out on the opportunity to face the land of his mother's birth.

The pair are among seven players allowed to leave following Monday's 3-0 victory over Bolivia, along with Alex Bono, Alejandro Guido, Ethan Horvath, Matt Olosunde and Walker Zimmerman.

The USA face Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, June 2nd in what will be John O'Shea's final game for the Boys in Green before facing France in Lyon seven days later.

“We’re excited about the chance to add some of the veterans from Europe as well as the younger guys in MLS who have been part of our group since November,” Sarachan said.

“The games against Ireland and France will bring increasingly more difficult challenges, so we felt it was important to bring in some players that offer a bit more experience.

“These matches will provide another big development opportunity for these players who are growing in their international careers.”
