Former Saints midfielder Chris Forrester transfer-listed by Peterborough United

Former St Patrick's Athletic midfielder Chris Forrester has been placed on the transfer list at English League One side Peterborough United.

The Dubliner is likely to depart the Posh during the summer after manager Steve Evans told him he's surplus to requirements at London Road.

The 25-year-old's contract is set to expire at the end of the 2018-19 season and the club are prepared to listen to offers for the ball-playing midfielder.

He joined the Posh in August of 2015 after impressing over a number of seasons for the Saints.

“It has been a long day but decisions have been taken,” Evans told the club's website.

“Over the last eight weeks we have analysed in great detail the respective merits of each individual within the first team squad and considered next seasons main objective

““In respect of those players placed on the immediate transfer list, each decision has been taken with a real duty of care.

“They are not part of my plans for next season so it is in the best interests of everyone if they move on.

“It goes without saying there will be significant interest in a number of them, some will be subject to transfer fees but again that is a financial decision taken by the chairman and the board.”

It represents a stark reversal in the playmaker's fortunes as he was made captain by former manager Grant McCann at the beginning of the 2016-17.

Forrester was named in Martin O'Neill's extended squad for the pre-Euro 2016 friendlies against Slovakia and Switzerland but wasn't retained for the games.

He has struggled this year at Peterborough, however, losing the captaincy during the summer and has been out of favour since McCann was replaced by the old school Evans.

Former Pats goalkeeper Conor O'Malley, who also has 12 months to run on his deal, has been retained by the club.
