Record 45,000 attend but Louise Quinn and Katie McCabe's Arsenal fall short in Wembley FA Cup final

Louise Quinn started and Katie McCabe was a late substitute for Arsenal as they were beaten 3-1 in the FA Women's Cup final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

A record 45,000 were in atttendance and thousands more tuned in on BBC One to see the Gunners go up against Chelsea, who have had the edge over their North London rivals in recent seasons.

Louise Quinn's injury-time headed goal had booked Arsenal's place in the final as they overcame Everton, while Chelsea beat defending champions Manchester City.

The Blues lifted their second FA Cup trophy thanks to a double from Ramona Bachmann and a late third from England international Fran Kirby.

Vivianne Medesma – who was an unused substitute during the Netherlands' 2-0 win over Ireland in Tallaght last month – briefly pulled it back to 2-1 but Chelsea's class eventually told.
