Karl Sheppard: 'The important thing when you lose is how you react and how effectively you bounce back'

Karl Sheppard says that Cork City are determined to put Monday’s defeat to Shamrock Rovers behind them when they travel to Limerick on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 2pm).

Sheppard spoke to the media ahead of the game and emphasised that the minimum requirement another three points in front of their home support.

“It was one of those things on Monday night unfortunately,” Sheppard reflected on the defeat to Shamrock Rovers

“We put a serious amount of effort into the Dundalk game last Friday night. It was a quick turnaround and maybe we just weren’t mentally ready for that one so soon.

“It was a very disappointing night for us but bring on Saturday, today we’ve been out there ripping into each other in training and making sure we are ready to go for Saturday.

“I’d much prefer never to have the loss if I’m being honest but I think the important thing about when you do lose is how you react and how effectively you bounce back.”

The striker is aware that their opening to this season hasn’t been as emphatic as last year but it was always going to be hard to match that again this year.

He is confident enough that as a squad they are constantly improving and as the season progresses need to now do their best to reach the higher gears they know they are capable of reaching.

“I think at the minute we are only in second or third gear but we need to start kicking on a bit now as the season progresses.

“We need to start looking at getting more and more ninety minute performances in instead of playing well for twenty to thirty minutes and grinding out a result.

“If you look at the team last year there was obviously different dynamics to our attack but this year I think we’ve the same attacking threat .

“We just need to take more of our chances and we will look to start doing that again from Saturday against Limerick.”
