Danske Bank Premiership Round-up (February 27 2018)

Glenavon piled more pressure on Linfield manager David Healy after they defeated the Belfast Blues 2-0 at Windsor Park on Tuesday evening.

The win puts Glenavon six points clear of their opponents, a classy finish from Josh Daniels and Mark Griffin’s deflected strike secured a deserved victory in what was a scrappy affair.

Healy will have been cursing his sides luck as they had the perfect chance to open the scoring early on when the on-loan Achille Campion blazed a chance over when he was played one on one with Glenavon keeper Jonathan Tuffey.

It proved to be Linfield’s best chance of the match and the miss was quickly punished when Daniels cut his way through their defence to slot the ball past Gareth Deane and into the bottom corner of the net.

 

 

Deane was then to make an excellent save to deny Stephen Murray as he was played through on goal by Andy McGrory.

However, the Linfield keeper was beaten for a second time with 10 minutes to go as Griffin’s deflected effort flew into the back of the net.

Ronnie McFall kept his perfect start as temporary Glentoran boss after he saw his side thrash Warrenpoint Town 5-0 at the Oval.



It was a cruise for the Glens with Curtis Allen’s close-range finish setting them on their way before Robbie McDaid thumped a strike off the bar on its way into the net.

Allen netted from a rebound and McDaid lobbed Point keeper Jonathan Parr before completing his hat-trick by firing low into the net.

This game also saw the end of Warrenpoint manager Matthew Tipton who resigned after the game to take over at Championship side Portadown who he has previously played for.

Carrick Rangers boosted their survival hopes after a 1-0 victory over Bet McLean League Cup winners Dungannon Swifts to move seven points clear of basement club Ballinamallard United thanks to Julien Anau’s first goal for the club.

Anau tapped in from close range after Darren Henderson saw his effort saved by Stuart Addies but then recovered to provide the assist for Anau.

Ards also boosted their survival chances after they claimed a 1-0 victory over Ballyemena United after Reece Glendinning beat brother Ross in the Ballyemena goal.



Glendinning has scored a goal in each of Ards three league meetings with Ballymena this season.
