Ipswich Town sign defender Barry Cotter from Limerick

Barry Cotter has become the second Limerick player in as many days to secure a lucrative move to the UK after agreeing terms with English Championship club Ipswich Town.

Winger Chiedozie Ogbene sealed a move to Ipswich's Championship rivals Brentford on Tuesday afternoon after impressing on trial over the winter period.

The Tractor Boys have agreed to pay an undisclosed fee for the 19-year-old, who can play in a range of positions along the back line and in midfield.

Cotter – who is the second Munsterman to move from the League of Ireland to Ipswich this month after Aaron Drinan moved from Waterford, has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal.

“I can’t wait to get going now,” Cotter told the club's website upon putting pen to paper.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to learn here. I know Aaron from growing up and playing at U19 level and I know some of the other boys here as well which will help me settle in.”

Cotter made nine appearances for the Blues' first team during 2017 and would have made more had he not suffered an injury during a league win over Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

“It’s a big step up for me but I’m confident it’s one I can make. I’ve not set myself too many goals yet.

“I’d like to break into the first-team obviously but for now, I just want to get my head down and work hard and show people what I can do.

“With the manager and coaching staff here I feel I can really improve as a player and that’s my main aim for now.”
