Drogheda complete signing of Luke Rossiter from Bray

Drogheda United have completed the signing of midfielder Luke Rossiter from Bray Wanderers.

The 19-year-old joined the Boynesiders’ after featuring in their first pre-season friendly, a 2-1 victory over Bohemians on Tuesday.

He then started in midfield for former teammate Tim Clancy’s side in Saturday’s Jim Malone Cup defeat to Dundalk.

Speaking to Extratime.ie, Rossiter explained how new Drogheda manager Tim Clancy was a big factor in him making the home to the Louth side.

“Tim (Clancy) was a big factor for me going to Drogheda as I played with him at Bray and have a good relationship with him so he rang me asking to go up and train and thankfully we got a deal done,” Rossiter said.

Rossiter has played in both of Drogheda’s pre-season games to date and almost scored his first goal for the Boynesiders against Dundalk as he hit the bar from inside his own half.

“The pre-season games have been good so far we look very sharp, especially against Dundalk who in my opinion are the best in the country and I felt we done well against them.

“I felt great after the games, I feel sharp and fit and playing against Dundalk last night was a great experience for me,” Rossiter told extratime.ie.

Looking ahead to his first full season of senior League of Ireland football, Rossiter believes Drogheda have the quality to aim for promotion this season.

“My hope for this season is promotion. I feel we are the top contenders with the squad we have and the staff so I'm looking forward for the season to start.”

Rossiter had previously played for Shamrock Rovers U19 side in 2016 and 2017 before joining Bray Wanderers in July of 2017.

Rossiter began his time at Bray playing for their U19 side before making the first team squad for the first time in a 0-0 draw against Sligo in August.

His first team debut for Bray came in September, in a friendly at home to Waterford.

Rossiter remained in Bray's first team squad for the remainder of the season, featuring for the final time for the Seagulls' as a substitute against Cork City on the final day of the season.
