Kevin O'Connor joins Fleetwood Town on loan from Preston North End

Former Cork City star Kevin O’Connor has joined League One side Fleetwood Town on loan from Preston North End until the end of the season.

Having played his last game for Cork City in a frustrating 1-0 away defeat to Cypriot side AEK Larnaca in July, 22-year-old O’Connor departed the Rebel County alongside Seanie Maguire to join up with Preston.

Despite competition for places in Alex Neil’s starting eleven, O’Connor, who recently racked up a fortuitous Lotto win over Christmas, made 11 Championship appearances as well as one EFL Cup appearance for the Deepdale outfit.

However, looking for more first team football, the former Waterford United full back has decided to join up with League One mid-table side Fleetwood Town until the end of the season.

Speaking with the club's official website, the Cod Army’s manager Uwe Rosler said he is delighted to secure O’Connor’s services until the end of the season.

“Kevin is very talented, he has a great left foot and brings everything we want into the team,” said Rosler.

“We’ve been monitoring him for a while now and are delighted to have him at Fleetwood Town.”

The Enniscorthy native could find himself in the Fleetwood Town starting 11 come Saturday afternoon in an away clash against fellow mid-table side Gillingham at Priestfields Stadium.
