Galway United sign Dundalk winger Carlton Ubaezuono on loan until the summer

Galway United have announced the signing of 19-year-old winger Carlton Ubaezuono from Dundalk on a short-term loan until the end of June.

The Mayo native's signing brings the squad number to 15 for the new season as Shane Keegan's preparations continue for the start of the 2018 Premier Division season.

Ubaezuono has been a key player for the Dundalk under-19s in the last few years and was rewarded with a league and cup debut for Steven Kenny’s senior side towards the business end of 2016.

The 19-year-old continued to progress last season, making a further three league appearances with the first team.

Ubaezuono felt a loan move would be best to ensure his development and progression continued at a steady rate.

“I felt personally that I needed a loan move to further my career and to better myself as a player,” the winger told the Galway United website.

“For myself, firstly, I have to try and break into the team by doing well and trying to help the team and the fans, because it’s important for the fans to be happy about everything.

“It’s important for me to do well and hopefully I’ll impress the manager.”

Keegan added: “Carlton is an exciting player. He comes here and obviously the standout feature is his pace, his finishing is also excellent.

“I went to watch him play in a game for Dundalk IT, it happened to be here in Galway last month, he finished the game with a hat-trick and was the standout player by a country mile.”

Galway United begin their season on Friday, February 23rd at home to Athlone Town.
