Finn Harps sign defender Sam Todd on loan from Derry City

Finn Harps have bolstered their ranks for the 2018 First Division season with the acquisition of Derry City defender Sam Todd on a season-long loan deal.

Todd, 19, joins up with Ollie Horgan’s men on a loan deal having played for Derry City’s underage team in the last few years.

Todd's acquisition follows confirmation that fellow defender Shane Blaney has completed a move from Harps to English League One side Doncaster Rovers.

Manager Ollie Horgan is hoping that his new recruit can help his side to promotion back to the Premier Division having suffered relegation last season.

“I would know Sam very well from underage football,” Horgan told the club's official website.

“He’s a defender who has gained very good experience with Derry City at U19 level and was also with their first team squad last season.

“Sam’s only 19 so this is going to be a big opportunity for him to hopefully play regularly for Finn Harps through next season.”

Todd joins the likes of Aidan Friel, Ciaran O’Connor, Darren McFadden and Jesse Deevers who have all made recent switches to Ballybofey ahead of the new campaign.
