Limerick appoint Tommy Barrett to replace Neil McDonald as manager

Tommy Barrett has been confirmed as the new manager of Limerick following the recent departure of Neil McDonald.

McDonald left the club earlier this month to take up a position as assistant manager with Scunthorpe United and the club have looked within for his successor.

The 38-year-old Limerick man currently manages the under-19 side at the club and will take over the senior side with immediate effect as preparations continue for the new season.

Barrett is a former player at the club, having lined out for Limerick between 2004 and 2010, before hanging up his boots in 2012 to accept a coaching role with the club.

He also spent time with Shamrock Rovers and Athlone Town during his playing career.

His backroom team is expected to be announced in the coming days as preparations continue towards the season opener against Sligo Rovers on Saturday, February 17th.
