Wexford sign five including a second loan spell for Shamrock Rovers striker Dobbs

Wexford have signed Shamrock Rovers striker Aaron Dobbs on loan for a second successive season, one of five new faces to have signed terms with the south-east club.

Returning for a third spell with the club is Chris Kenny, who spent the past season at Sligo Rovers, while Shane Barnes, John Morgan and Liam McCartan have also joined the club.

19-year-old Dobbs originally signed for Wexford in July of last year and played the remainder of the season with his hometown club.

Wexford boss Damian Locke hailed the return of the highly-rated youngster, who is on a long-term deal with the Hoops, and believes playing a full pre-season in Wexford will help him develop.

“He’s a player who’s shown enormous potential and I believe he’ll be able to reach it, now that this squad can have a full pre-season together,” Locke told the club's website.

“Now that he can hit the ground running, he is capable of anything.”

27-year-old Kenny first joined Wexford Youths in the summer of 2008 and was part of the squad that won the 2015 First Division under Shane Keegan.

“Chris Kenny is a really important addition to this squad,” Locke continued.

“He’s a player I have admired for some time. He’s exactly what we’ve been missing both on the pitch and inside the dressing room.”

Full back McCartan arrives from Athlone Town, the 20-year-old having come through the youth system at Limerick before making the move to the midlands during the summer.

20-year-old striker Barnes was previously a member of Bray Wanderers' under-19 panel and has most recently played with TEK United in the Leinster Senior League.

Striker Morgan joins from Leinster Senior League side Boyne Rovers and has previously worked under Locke at Carlow side Crettyard United.
