Leinster Senior Cup Fourth Round Draw

The Leinster Football Association have made the fourth round draw for the 2017/18 Leinster Senior Cup which is the stage which traditionally sees League of Ireland sides enter the provincial cup competition.

In what is probably one of the more eye-catching ties of the round, last season’s runners up Dundalk will play host to fellow Premier Division team Bohemians at Oriel Park.

If Stephen Kenny’s men are  to the reach the final for the second season running, they must being that journey by getting by Bohs. The Gypsies have won this competition a record 32 times.

Last year’s winners Shelbourne will have to make the trip to the Athlone Town Stadium as Owen Heary’s men look to retain their crown.

There will be a massive incentive for the winners of the North End United vs St Mochta’s third round tie as the victors in this game will play Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium. Stephen Bradley’s men will be looking to banish the memories of last year’s desperately disappointing defeat away to non-league Thomastown United.

Meanwhile, in what could be considered as a bit of a head wrecker, Drogheda United will face one of three teams in Bangor Celtic, Crettyard United or Mullingar Athletic. Crettyard United and Mullingar Athletic are still yet to play their second round game against each other.

In a repeat of the 2014 Leinster Senior Cup Quarter Final, UCD will play host to fellow First Division side Longford Town at the UCD Bowl. The clash in 2014 saw Longford Town come out on top by three goals to one after De Town went a goal behind thanks to a Gary Burke strike.

In the other ties of the round, Damian Locke’s Wexford will play host to Pat Devlin’s Cabinteely in an all First Division tie while Bray Wanderers will welcome St. Patrick’s Athletic to the Carlisle Grounds in a repeat of last year’s fourth round clash which saw St Pat’s come out victorious in a 4-0 victory.

There will be a guaranteed representation from the Leinster Senior League in the Fifth round at least as the winners of Bluebell United and Usher Celtic will face either Crumlin United or Cherry Orchard in the fourth round of the competition.
