Bohemians sign Ireland under-19 defender Darragh Leahy from Coventry City

Bohemians have announced the signing of 19-year-old defender Darragh Leahy from Coventry City as manager Keith Long continues to build for the 2018 Premier Division season.

The promising left back, who has already earned eight under-19 caps with Ireland, began his football career with St. Kevins Boys before signing for Coventry at the age of 16.

Leahy parted company with the Sky Blues last week and expressed his joy at beginning a new adventure on Twitter.

“Buzzing to have signed for Bohs," he wrote. “Can’t wait to start enjoying my football again. Massive year ahead.”

Long expressed his satisfaction shortly after confirming the deal as another signing gets completed good and early before pre-season begins.

“Darragh started pre-season with the lads the other day and I am looking forward to working with him,” he told the club's website.

“It’s a big adjustment to senior football but he has a good pedigree and has had a good schooling with St Kevin’s.

“Left-back was a position where we needed to strengthen and we’ve had an agreement in principle with him for a few weeks now.

“He’s a left-back but is comfortable playing at centre-back too if needs be.”

Bohs begin their season with a mouth-watering Dublin derby at home to Shamrock Rovers on Friday, February 16th.
