Drogheda United re-sign midfielder Jake Hyland

Drogheda United have announced their fifth signing ahead of the 2018 season with confirmation that Jake Hyland has signed a new deal with the club.

Hyland played for St. Patrick’s Athletic’s under-19s in 2012/13 before moving to Bohemians under-19s for the 2013/14 season.

It was in 2014 that Hyland made a breakthrough to the first team squad, making five league appearances and also scoring twice against St Pats in an EA Sports Cup game.

The midfielder remained at Bohemians in 2015 but found game time limited, making just two league appearances before joining Malahide United in August 2015.

He wasn’t long out of the League of Ireland though as he signed for Pete Mahon at Drogheda United in December 2015.

Hyland made 24 league appearances in the First Division in 2016, scoring once – in a 2-2 draw against Athlone Town - as Drogheda were promoted back to the Premier Division at the first time of asking via the play-offs.

He signed back with Drogheda for the 2017 Premier Division campaign and made 26 appearances in all competitions, again scoring once – in Drogheda’s second game and second win of the season, a 2-0 victory at home to Pats in March.

The 22-year-old will now begin his third year at the Louth side and is new manager Tim Clancy’s fifth signing after Sean Brennan, Conor Kane, Kevin Farragher and Colm Deasy all put pen to paper on new deals with the club.
